For the first time in Armenia, robotic surgery has entered clinical practice, marking a historic milestone for the country’s healthcare system.
Simultaneous robotic procedures in general surgery, urology, and gynecology were successfully performed at SlavMed Medical Center. The surgeons performing the first robotic surgery are doctors Levon Grigoryan, Mher Mkhitaryan, and Vahe Ter-Minasyan.
Vahe Ter-Minasyan, one of the surgeons who performed these procedures and the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Surgical Gynecology Service at the Armenian-American Health Center, shared his reflections on this landmark achievement and its significance for the future of Armenian surgery.
“Today, we opened a new page in Armenian surgery.
For the first time in Armenia, we performed 3 robotic surgeries at once: in the fields of general surgery, urology, and gynecology.
Without undue modesty, I can say that it is a fantastic feeling when you realize that you and your friends are the first to do this.”

Another member of the surgical team, Levon N. Grigoryan, General, Laparoscopic, and Robotic Surgeon and Head of the Endoscopy Department at SlavMed Medical Center, also shared insights into their work and this milestone achievement on Facebook:
“At Slavmed Medical Center, led by Director Armine Hovakimyan, we have created the first multidisciplinary team for robotic surgery in Armenian surgery.
September 19, 2025.
A historic day and the beginning of a new surgical era for Armenian surgery. I am grateful and proud.”
Quoting Slavmed Medical Center’s post:
“Slavmed Medical Center was the first in Armenia to perform surgeries with a state-of-the-art robotic surgical system.
The robot provides unprecedented high accuracy and visibility, as well as greater freedom of movement. Thanks to all this, it is now possible to perform even the most complex surgeries in a less invasive way, more effectively, and safely.
Details coming soon…”
