Robin Zon, Chair of ASCO Association 2026-2027, Chair of ASCO Society 2025-2026, President ASCO 2024-2025, Past President of Michiana Hematology Oncology, Current Director of Breast Oncology, Cincinnati Cancer Advisors, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I recently had the honor of joining several of my fellow ASCO volunteers and advocates for a nationwide radio media tour to discuss a critical issue facing the oncology community: upcoming changes to Medicaid work requirements.
New guidelines set to take effect January 1, 2027, will eliminate automatic Medicaid exemptions based on a cancer diagnosis alone. Instead, patients and their care teams will face complex reporting structures, requiring them to actively verify how specific symptoms or treatments impair their ability to work. Because implementation and specific exemptions will vary significantly state by state, these strict administrative hurdles risk creating dangerous gaps in continuous, lifesaving cancer care.
During the tour, I joined The Scott Sloan Show on iHeartRadio to break down what these changing rules mean for providers and patients in our communities. You can listen to our discussion here.
ASCO is actively engaged on this issue to ensure patient care remains uninterrupted. To learn more about our ongoing advocacy efforts and how you can get involved, visit: asco.org/Medicaid.”
