Roberto Campos Jeldres, Head of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Sanatorio Alemán, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Today, our International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP Global Health Network Traditional and Complementary Medicine Working Group had the privilege of hosting an outstanding webinar: “Evidence-based Integrative Care for Children with Cancer”, led by Elena J. Ladas from Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
The session highlighted the growing evidence supporting integrative approaches in pediatric oncology and explored how evidence-based complementary therapies can be thoughtfully incorporated alongside conventional cancer treatment to improve symptom management, quality of life, and overall well-being for children and adolescents with cancer.
Key messages included:
- The importance of a whole-person, patient- and family-centered approach.
- The need for rigorous evaluation of safety and efficacy in integrative therapies.
- The growing global use of complementary and integrative medicine among pediatric oncology patients.
- The value of multidisciplinary collaboration, education, and research to advance this field responsibly.
Thank you to Prof. Ladas for sharing her expertise and to all colleagues from around the world who joined this important discussion. These conversations are essential as we continue building a stronger evidence base and expanding access to safe, effective, and compassionate care for children with cancer worldwide.”
