Roberta Ortiz: Proud to Contribute to the Global Status Report on Cancer 2026

Roberta Ortiz, Pediatric Oncologist, Medical Officer, Department of NCD and Mental HealthWHO HQ Geneva, shared on LinkedIn:

“I feel very excited to share this important milestone, a true team effort that culminates today with the launch of the Global Status Report on Cancer 2026: The Future We Choose Together.

Cancer causes 20.6 million new cases and nearly 10 million deaths each year, with annual cases projected to reach 35 million by 2050 without stronger action. The report documents encouraging progress on national cancer control plans and declines in tobacco use, as well as advances in early detection and research.

It highlights that accelerating progress requires a people-centred approach. The lived experiences of people affected by cancer must help shape policies, services and research to ensure health systems respond to what matters most to individuals, families and communities.”

Guillermo Chantada, Head of the Outreach Program at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, shared Roberta Ortiz’s post, adding:

“This is a seminal contribution with an exhaustive and thoughtful analysis of the situation in cancer all over the world. We are advancing quickly in childhood cancer but systemic challenges persist. Congratulations Roberta Ortiz and your great team!”
