Robert A. Harrington: Sometimes We Forget That Men Have Lower Life Expectancies Compared to Women

Robert A. Harrington, Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean at Weill Cornell Medicine and Provost for Medical Affairs at Cornell University, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Sometimes we forget that men have lower life expectancies compared to women – almost five years lower here in the U.S. While women and men share heart disease and cancer as leading causes of death, there are high-risk issues that men specifically face. They have a higher incidence of death due to accidents or injuries as well as by suicide.

It’s our job as physicians to promote healthy behavior in men, address their medical problems and support their mental health.

I challenge my fellow men to recommit to exercising and taking care of your health in the month of June. How do you incorporate exercise into your daily routine?”
