Rob Winn: Supporting Patients Beyond the Clinic Walls Builds Trust in Cancer Care
Rob Winn, Director of VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A new study from the American Cancer Society highlights that unmet social needs, like housing, food, and transportation insecurity- are linked to lower trust in cancer information from doctors and the healthcare system. Trust is essential for patients to follow recommendations for screenings, treatment, and preventive care.
This research underscores the importance of addressing social needs in clinical care, from patient navigation programs to connecting patients with community resources. By supporting patients beyond the clinic walls, we can strengthen trust, improve communication, and ultimately help patients navigate their cancer journey more confidently.
