Rishabh Jain: SBRT Shows Lower Toxicity Than Microwave Ablation in Colorectal Liver Metastases

Rishabh Jain, Medical Oncologist at AIIMS Delhi, shared on X:

“LAVA-CRLM: SBRT vs Microwave Ablation in colorectal liver metastases  First prospective randomised Phase II trial directly comparing SBRT vs MWA in oligometastatic colorectal liver metastases.

100 patients randomised mITT population: 9 1-year freedom from local progression

Grade ≥2 treatment-related toxicity

  • SBRT: 3%
  • MWA: 25%

Grade ≥3 toxicity

  • SBRT: 0%
  • MWA: 8%1 treatment-related death with MWA

Take-home: No difference in local control was detected, but SBRT had a more favourable safety profile and offers a non-invasive local treatment option in appropriately selected patients. Phase II study, not powered to prove equivalence or non-inferiority.”
