“The future of cancer care isn’t just about new drugs—it’s about better conversations across specialties.
That thought sat with me throughout the 1st HK Geriatric Oncology Preceptorship, held at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong and organized by HKSGO under the leadership of Janice Tsang and her team.
I was honored to serve as international faculty alongside Etienne Brain and Ayumu Matsuoka, for what turned out to be far more than a lecture series. It was an interactive, workshop-style event—case-based, candid, and refreshingly free of silos.
Oncologists, geriatricians, and surgeons sat side by side, wrestling with the real complexities of treating older adults with cancer. Not just the disease, but the whole person: frailty, function, cognition, goals, and what ‘benefit’ truly means at 80 versus 50.
The engagement was extraordinary. Colleagues challenged assumptions, shared real-world constraints, and debated openly. That is where learning happens.
Moments like this remind me why geriatric oncology matters—and why collaboration across disciplines isn’t optional. It’s essential.
