Rasha Aboelhassan: What Can 5,296 Patients Teach Us About Precision Oncology in Egypt?

Rasha Aboelhassan, Council Member at International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, Senior Oncology Consultant at Nasser Institute Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:

“What can 5,296 patients teach us about precision oncology in Egypt?

Our multicentre real-world study brings together data from more than 10 Egyptian tertiary oncology centres to characterize EGFR mutations in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Among 5,101 evaluable patients, 22.2% had a clinically actionable EGFR alteration. Exon 19 deletions were the most frequent, followed by L858R. We also identified 219 patients with T790M.

But these findings are only the beginning of the conversation.

  • What do these results mean for clinical practice?
  • How can we translate molecular data into better testing pathways, more informed treatment decisions, and improved patient outcomes?
  • And what additional evidence do we need to understand the clinical impact of these findings in Egyptian patients?

Our next step is to move beyond describing mutation prevalence and investigate how molecular results connect with treatment decisions and clinical outcomes.

Because precision oncology is not just about identifying mutations. It is about making the right treatment possible for the right patient.

Thank you for your efforts all investigators.”
