“Being part of the EMRO Session at WCLC26 was a new experience-and, for me as an Egyptian oncologist, a particularly meaningful one.
We did more than share presentations. We put the gaps on the table-gaps in knowledge, diagnosis, treatment, and education-and, importantly, started discussing how we can turn these challenges into solutions. Each speaker brought valuable expertise and a different perspective from across the region. But one message was clear:
EMRO does not need more recognition of its challenges alone. We need stronger collaboration, continuous education, and practical solutions that can translate into better care for our patients. The time was simply too short for the number and complexity of issues we wanted to address.
So perhaps this should not be seen as the end of a session, but as the beginning of a stronger EMRO educational dialogue.
As an Egyptian oncologist and an advocate for our region, I look forward to more time, more voices, and more opportunities to turn regional gaps into collective action.
The challenges are significant. The opportunity to make a difference is even greater.”
