”Have you ever walked into an multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meeting having prepared your case thoroughly – then surprised to be asked a question you couldn’t answer?
Why does this happen?
Because we may prepare the case from our own perspective, while every member of the MDT may see the same case differently. That diversity of perspectives is the real strength of a multidisciplinary team – but it is also a skill that needs to be trained.
This is why all oncologists should receive training in effective MDT discussion and clinical decision-making.
And this is exactly why the IASLC Education Committee has developed an MDT Simulation / Tumor Board case simulation as part of Lung Cancer 360.
It provides an opportunity to simulate a real MDT environment, challenge our clinical thinking, learn from different specialties, and understand how other MDT members approach the same patient.
The goal is not simply to know the answer.
The goal is to learn how to ask the right questions, challenge our assumptions, and make better decisions together.”
