Rahul Bhargava: New MyGIG Initiative Aims to Redefine Precision Care in Multiple Myeloma

Rahul Bhargava, Director and Head of Hematology, Hematooncology, and Stem Cell Transplant at Fortis Health Care, shared on LinkedIn:

Myeloma Genetic Interest Groups (MyGIG)

One Gene. One Group. One Mission.

Multiple myeloma is not a single disease. It comprises genetically distinct subtypes, each with unique biology and clinical behavior. While risk stratification has guided treatment for years, patients with the same genetic abnormality often have very different outcomes. The next frontier is understanding the biology behind these differences.

To advance this vision, we are delighted to launch Myeloma Genetic Interest Groups (MyGIG).

The genomics program will be led by Dr. Shrinidhi Nathany with the clinical program led by Dr. Mehak Trehan and Dr. Paritosh Garg . Together, MyGIG brings clinicians, molecular pathologists, geneticists, researchers, and data scientists onto a common platform to study genetically defined myeloma.

Each MyGIG will focus on a single genetic subtype, exploring its molecular biology, co-mutations, clonal evolution, therapeutic vulnerabilities, and long-term outcomes. By integrating clinical data with genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, immune profiling, and real-world evidence, we aim to build a deeper biological understanding of multiple myeloma and translate these insights into precision patient care.

More than a research initiative, MyGIG is a collaborative movement to generate high-quality evidence, foster multicenter collaborations, and develop disease experts dedicated to individual genetic subtypes.

We invite every clinician, scientist, fellow, and researcher to choose one genetic subtype, make it your scientific focus, and help redefine the future of precision myeloma.

Welcome to MyGIG.

One Gene. One Group. One Mission.”
