Rahul Bhargava, Director and Head of Hematology, Hematooncology, and Stem Cell Transplant at Fortis Health Care, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Two Innovations That Changed My Practice Forever
Over the last two years, two landmark innovations have fundamentally transformed the way I practice hematology:
1. CAR-T Cell Therapy
For decades, many patients with relapsed and refractory blood cancers had limited options. Today, CAR-T cell therapy has rewritten those expectations.
We are witnessing patients with advanced leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma achieving deep and durable remissions that were once considered impossible.
CAR-T has taught us a powerful lesson:
Never give up on a patient simply because the disease has relapsed.
It has expanded the boundaries of what is achievable and has brought curative intent back into situations where hope was often limited.
2. Three-Day Genomics
The second revolution has been the arrival of rapid genomics.
Traditionally, genomic reports in AML and other hematological malignancies took 2–3 weeks. Today, with three-day genomics, actionable molecular information is available while treatment decisions are still being made.
This has changed everything:
- Faster and more accurate diagnosis
- Precision treatment selection
- Reduced unnecessary hospitalization costs
- Better matching of therapies to disease biology
- Improved patient outcomes
As a clinician, rapid genomics has strengthened my belief that the future of hematology lies in precision medicine delivered in real time.
Why This Matters
Together, CAR-T therapy and rapid genomics are doing something remarkable:
- Improving survival
- Reducing treatment delays
- Lowering overall healthcare costs
- Making personalized medicine a reality
- Challenging the traditional concept that age alone should determine treatment eligibility
Today, I genuinely believe that with the right biology-driven approach, many patients with acute leukemia can achieve outcomes that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago.
I feel privileged to be part of this journey.
A special acknowledgment to Shrinidhi Nathany, Agilus Diagnostics, Deepak Narang, Yashpal Singh Rawat, Ritu Mittal Garg for bringing three day genomics to India and helping build a new era of precision hematology.
The future of hematology will not be defined by how much treatment we give.
It will be defined by how precisely we understand the disease before we treat it.”
