Prisca Githuka, Cancer Advocate, Founder of Pink Hearts Cancer Support Foundation, shared a post by Pink Hearts Cancer Support Foundation on LinkedIn, adding:
“One of the most concerning things about today’s tobacco and nicotine products is how they are being made to look harmless, modern and appealing especially to young people.
Flavours may seem small, but they play a huge role in reducing caution and increasing curiosity among adolescents and young adults.
As someone working in cancer awareness and advocacy spaces, I keep thinking about how prevention is becoming more complicated. We are no longer only dealing with traditional tobacco products, but also newer products designed to feel attractive, socially acceptable and easier to start using.
Protecting young people must remain at the center of these conversations.”
Quoting Pink Hearts Cancer Support Foundation’s post:
“Flavours do more than improve taste – they make tobacco and nicotine products easier to try and harder to resist.
Flavoured products play a major role in attracting young people to start using tobacco and nicotine.
- 49% of Kenyans using nicotine pouches say flavours influence their use.
- 68% of Kenyan e-cigarette users report using them because of appealing flavours.
It’s time to ban flavoured tobacco and nicotine products.”
