Prisca Githuka, Cancer Advocate, Founder of Pink Hearts Cancer Support Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“We are not short of innovation in Africa’s health systems. We are short of access, alignment and urgency.
That was my biggest takeaway from the World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2026, themed ’Reimagining Africa’s health systems: innovation, integration and interdependence.’
What stood out across the conversations based on the sub – themes, wasn’t just what we’re getting right but where the gaps still persist:
- Climate and health are now inseparable. Resilient systems are a necessity, not a choice.
- Digital health and AI are advancing fast, but access remains uneven.
- Equity, gender and youth leadership must move beyond dialogue into real influence.
- Strong, well-financed systems and not just ideas will determine real impact.
- Mental health is finally being recognized as essential.
- Primary health care and preparedness remain the foundation of everything.
During the Radio theranostics / Radioligy and Therapy session where I had the privilege to speak, one moment stayed with me.
A patient shared their journey. Not just a story, but lived experience backed by evidence and showing the real impact of this technology.
It was powerful. Because it grounded the science in something real… a life changed.
Radioligand therapy represents precision and possibility. With the right infrastructure, workforce and intentional investment allowing access for patients, it will be a breakthrough for many.
So here’s the challenge I’m taking with me:
By the time the summit happens again, the conversations cannot sound the same.
- Let’s move from pilots to scale,
- from promises to funded priorities,
- from inclusion to real decision-making power,
- and from innovation as a concept to access as a lived reality.
Because the true measure of progress won’t be what we said in the room.
It will be who, outside the room, can finally access the care they need.”
