Prisca Githuka: Delivering Life-Saving Education on Breast Cancer in Local Communities

“What happens when you speak to a woman in a language she truly understands? You don’t just share information, you save a life.

At Pink Hearts Cancer Support Foundation, prevention is at the heart of everything we do.

Last Saturday 28th March 2026, we reached over 500 women at Gaichanjiru location, Kandara Subcounty, Murang’a County (gathered at Our Lady Queen of All Saints church) with life-saving education on Breast Cancer. The session was highly engaging, with women eager for more information, asking questions and participating actively. Using Kikuyu which is the local language made the session even more impactful by breaking barriers and building trust.

We covered:

  • Risk factors and behavior change
  • Early signs and symptoms
  • The importance of early detection

A key highlight was the practical self-breast examination demonstration, empowering women to check their bodies regularly.

‘I have heard about breast cancer before, but no one has ever shown me how to check myself. Today, I feel empowered. I now know what to look for and when to seek help.’ ( Mama Wambui- not her real name)

This is prevention in action where we equip women with knowledge, confidence and the power to take charge of their health. Awareness understood becomes action. And action saves lives.

At Pink Hearts Cancer, we remain committed to creating awareness in underserved communities using local languages.”
