“Scientists from the University of Melbourne have found that preserving lymph nodes during cancer surgery could improve how people respond to immunotherapy.
Their research, published in Nature Immunology, shows that lymph nodes do more than filter cancer cells – they help train and sustain the T cells that fight tumours.
But lymph nodes are also frequent sites of metastasis. In lung cancer, removing or sampling them remains vital for staging and treatment. Future studies may help define how to balance both roles – removing disease while preserving immune function.”
