Petros Grivas: Could GLP-1 Receptor Agonists Offer Broader Benefits Beyond Weight Loss in Oncology?

Petros Grivas, Professor and Physician-Scientist in Genitourinary Cancers at the University of Washington and Fred Hutch, shared  by Ashish M. Kamat, Endowed Professor and Surgeon at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, President of the International Bladder Cancer Group (IBCG), and Associate Editor at European Urology Oncology, on X added:

“Congrats Aparna Kamat et al. for a very important paper Annals of Oncology, Tom Powles.

Lifestyle is critical along with avoiding risk factors, screening, detailed family history, genetic counseling, germline testing, etc.

It seems that GLP1-RA may have broader benefits!”

Quoting  Ashish M. Kamat:

“We now have a datapoint beyond lifestyle counseling when managing obese patients with cancer history or high-risk features. New data in Annals of Oncology.

A target trial emulation of >229K obese, nondiabetic adults shows GLP-1RA use is associated with a 41% reduction in obesity-associated cancers compared to lifestyle modifications alone (HR 0.5).

Congratulations to Aparna Kamat, Arthur Hsu, Pedro T Ramirez and entire Houston Methodist team.”
