Petra Jankowska, Medical Director of Professional Practice at The Royal College of Radiologists, shared on LinkedIn:
“Grateful to represent The Royal College of Radiologists and humbled by the speakers at the Check Her Out campaign launch today in Westminster.
Diagnosis with Stage I breast cancer is associated with high cure rates so Early Detection Save Lives.
But nearly half of women do not regularly check their breasts for signs of cancer and 10% say the have never checked their breasts!
Despite having a national screening programme, screening uptake is falling not rising, yet female breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer in working women.
It was inspiring to hear from policymakers with lived experience Mary Kelly Foy, from the Check Her Out campaign Ambassadors Millie Bright and Jennifer Beattie who gave such personal and authentic stories from their lives, from Sharon Hodgson, Minister for Public Health & Prevention, and charged with implementing the NHS Cancer Plan.
Thank you to Johan Kahlström, CEO of Novartis, and Claire Rowney, CEO of Breast Cancer Now for hosting this auspicious launch.
Now for the work of influencing policymakers, changinf public perceptions of breast examination and screening, and driving up Breast Screening, Self Referral and reducing inequities and variation in clinical practice.
Breast cancer can affect anyone – younger or older, healthy or with background health conditions, affluent or economically challenged.
So what are you waiting for?”
