Peter Slavin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Health System shared a post on LinkedIn:
”At Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children’s, a new music therapy program is bringing calm to some of our smallest patients. In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, board-certified music therapist Laura Cellini sings and plays guitar at the bedside of newborns, helping to stabilize heart rates, improve oxygen levels and support a more regulated, calming state for infants surrounded by the sounds of monitors and machines.
This program exists because of an commendable act of generosity. Joey and Ryder Corleto, 14-year-old twins who spent their first days in our NICU, chose to dedicate their bar and bat mitzvah gifts to help launch it. Music has long been part of their lives, and they wanted other families to feel the comfort it can bring during a difficult time.
For parents and staff alike, these sessions offer a welcome sense of peace in an environment that can feel overwhelming. I am grateful to Joey and Ryder, to their family and to the clinicians who bring this thoughtful care to our youngest patients and their families.”
