Pegah Varamini, Founder and CEO at Armāitide, Associate Professor in Pharmacy and Pharmacology at University of Sydney, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I am pleased to be one of 12 researchers to receive an inaugural Pink Sky Grant (PSG) from the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
The PSG Scheme is a bold new funding initiative designed to support high-risk, high-reward research projects with paradigm-shifting potential to revolutionise approaches to combating breast cancer.
My research entitled: ‘Moving a new type of targeted therapy for Triple Negative Breast Cancer closer to clinical trials,‘ aims to complete the final stages of preclinical development needed before human clinical trials. We will evaluate how well our new targeted therapy affects tumour growth in human-derived laboratory models, assess its safety and how it is processed by the body, and use machine-learning tools to explore which tumour characteristics may be associated with a stronger response, potentially helping to identify the people most likely to benefit in the future.
This research has a clear line of sight to NBCF’s vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.

I am specially grateful to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), who first believed in my idea and gave me the opportunity to embark on this entire research program in 2016, together with the support of University of Sydney Pharmacy School, when I was selected as one of four NBCF Fellowship awardees. Almost a decade later, it is incredibly meaningful to have NBCF supporting us again as we reach the final stages of development before progressing towards human clinical trials.
