Childhood Cancer International – Europe shared on LinkedIn:
“Something big started last week!
On October 2 and 3, the official launch of the European Commission co-funded IMPACT-EU project took place in Utrecht, Netherlands!
What is IMPACT-EU all about?
This project marks the start of a Europe-wide initiative to improve psychosocial care for children and adolescents with cancer.
Under the coordination of SIOP Europe, the European Society for Paediatric Oncology (SIOPE), the scientific leadership of the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, and in close collaboration with CCI Europe, which represents the voice of patients, we hope to make a real contribution together with our 15 other partners from a total of 14 European countries.
The event was characterized by genuine motivation, palpable inspiration, and a sincere desire to improve psychosocial care in pediatric oncology across Europe!
The event was about presenting the measures and activities as well as the planned results during the project, followed by initial interactive and exciting discussions:
1 – Development of a Europe-wide standard for psychosocial care in pediatric oncology, for uniform, high-quality support in all countries
2 – Mapping psychosocial services across Europe, both within and outside hospitals
3 – Providing training and implementation tools to strengthen the skills and capacities of professionals and peer supporters
4 – Implementing standards for psychosocial care in clinical practice and testing evidence-based tools in pediatric oncology centers across Europe.
We were very honored that both HADEA, represented by Olga Juve Martinez, and DGsante, represented by Simona Gerikaite, were present to celebrate the launch of the project.
Another highlight of the event was the artistic accompaniment by Suus van den Akker, who captured the content of the event lovingly, accurately, and with a wink in small cartoons.
We are looking forward to the next three years, because psychosocial care is simply a must-have (and not a nice-to-have).”
