Patrick Hwu, President and CEO at Moffitt Cancer Center, shared UF Health Cancer Center’s post on LinkedIn, adding:
“It was my pleasure to share the latest on next-gen cell therapies today at University of Florida!
Thank you to UF Health Cancer Center and Jonathan Licht, M.D., for the warm welcome and the opportunity to kick off your fall Oncology Grand Rounds series. It’s always inspiring to connect with colleagues who share the same drive to push the boundaries of discovery and care.
At Moffitt Cancer Center, we’re working every day to harness the power of the immune system and accelerate progress against cancer. Together, through collaboration across Florida and beyond, we can continue to cut down the cancer death rate and move closer to a future without cancer!”
Quoting UF Health Cancer Center’s post:
” ‘We can envision a day when zero Floridians and zero people around the world die of cancer — I think that’s possible,’ said Patrick Hwu, M.D., president and CEO of Moffitt Cancer Center. ‘Florida has the second highest cancer burden in nation — 50,000 deaths per year — and that death rate is starting to come down because of all the advances we’re doing. Let’s do what we can together to continue to drop this death rate and accelerate that.’
We had the honor of hosting Dr. Hwu at the University of Florida today for an incredible talk on next-generation T-cell therapies for cancer. In was an inspiring way to kick off our fall Oncology Grand Rounds series!
Dr. Hwu is an internationally recognized tumor immunologist and physician-scientist who has led pioneering research and clinical efforts to better understand the interactions between tumors and the immune system. He helped launch the field of gene-modified T cells, publishing research on the first chimeric antigen receptor directed against cancer.
Thank you, Dr. Hwu, for visiting and motivating us to keep reaching higher as we reduce the burden of cancer together!”
