Partha Basu, Head of the Early Detection, Prevention and Infections Branch at IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization, shared a post by EU-GAINS project on LinkedIn, adding:
“Contributed to the World Cancer Day with the launch of our new project to prepare the third report on the status, organization and performance of breast cancer, cervical, colorectal and lung cancer screening programs in Europe.
We will coordinate with ongoing projects to report the pilot prostate and gastric cancer screening programs also. The launch meeting was attended by more than 50 experts from 33 countries.”

“IARC kicks off work on the Third EU Cancer Screening Report.
On 4-5 February 2026, IARC hosted the first EU‑GAINS expert workshop in Lyon, launching preparations for the Third EU Cancer Screening Report. Participants from IARC, DG SANTE, the JRC, clinical partners, and 33 countries reviewed key findings from recent screening programs and aligned on priorities for harmonized indicators, data collection, and report structure.
This meeting marks the first step toward a strengthened EU evidence base for early detection.
