Pablo Gonzalez-Montalvo, Mexico in Alliance with St. Jude Steering Committee/ Vice-president at Mexico in Alliance with St. Jude (MAS), shared on LinkedIn:
“This child finished chemotherapy for Lymphoblastic leukemia 5 years ago (photo from then).
Today, he came to our ward to celebrate that. Upon the family’s visit, they had a conversation, accompanied by our psychologist, with a family whose child was diagnosed today with the same disease.
We call this emotional navigation accompanied by peers of the Lymphoblastic leukemia diagnosis.
We empirically consider this is a way to build trust and to validate the medical team’s message.
Our plan is to do a qualitative study to better understand the impact of this, both on the newly diagnosed family, and on those who many years ago received such assistance and are now assisting others.”
