Susanna Fletcher Greer: Advancing Ovarian Cancer Detection and Prevention with the V Foundation
Susanna Fletcher Greer, Chief Scientific Officer of the V Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn by the V Foundation, adding:
“Love this piece!
Thank you to Women’s Health for spotlighting a cancer that too often flies under the radar.
Ovarian cancer is less common than breast cancer, but far more lethal when it’s found late.
We can change that with three moves:
- Invest earlier: Fund discovery on where disease starts (often the fallopian tube), and accelerate smart, minimally invasive screening strategies, beyond CA-125 alone.
- Know your risk: If cancer runs in your family, ask about genetic testing (e.g., BRCA1/2) and risk-reducing options.
- Back the builders: Support teams advancing detection and prevention. I’m proud that the V Foundation backs leaders who are pushing toward earlier detection and better outcomes.
A 50–50 survival rate isn’t acceptable. With focused research and informed care, we can bend that curve. ”
Quoting the V Foundation‘s post:
“Our researchers are always doing bold things!
Women’s Health recently chatted with 2 of our grantees about the difficulty in detecting ovarian cancer. Dr. Sarah Adams (University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center) and Dr. Jamie Bakkum-Gamez (Mayo Clinic) share their expertise.”
