Oscar Tahuahua: A First Seizure Can Be the First Sign of Cancer

Oscar Tahuahua, Medical Oncology Fellow at the National Cancer Institute of Mexico, shared a post on X about a recent article by Andreas Pedersen et al. published in JAMA Neurology:

“A first seizure can be the first sign of cancer.

In ~50,000 patients

  • Cancer risk increased 5x
  • Brain tumors increased 76x
  • Highest risk in the first month ~4% are diagnosed with cancer within a year (~1 in 25 pts)

Not just a neurological event, sometimes it’s the diagnosis announcing itself.”
