“London Global Cancer Week 2026 is underway!
Yesterday marked Day 1 of London Global Cancer Week (LGCW) 2026, bringing together organisations and experts from across the world to discuss some of the most pressing challenges in cancer care.
What makes LGCW special is the diversity of perspectives and the recognition that improving cancer outcomes requires more than scientific advances. It requires policy change, stronger health systems, community engagement and equitable access.
Highlights from some of the sessions I attended:
- Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA): Cancer Survivorship
As more people survive cancer, are our healthcare systems adequately supporting them to live well?
Survivorship goes beyond survival statistics. It encompasses physical, psychological, social and financial wellbeing. Importantly, who has access to survivorship care?
- World Cancer Research Fund: Putting Cancer on the Label
Should alcohol products carry cancer warning labels?
Drawing on lessons from different countries, this session explored alcohol labelling as a public health intervention and the challenges of translating evidence into policy.
Cancer prevention is not simply an individual responsibility. Public policy matters.
- The Institute of Breast Diseases, Kolkata: Integrative Oncology
How do we bring community practitioners, survivors and families into breast cancer care to improve outcomes?
This conversation resonates strongly with my belief that cancer care doesn’t start in the hospital. It starts in the community.
- OncoDaily: Who Gets the Trial, the Drug, the Chance?
This is one of the most uncomfortable questions in modern oncology.
We celebrate scientific breakthroughs, yet access to clinical trials, innovative medicines and specialist care remains deeply unequal.
How do we address funding constraints and build sustainable cancer services, particularly in resource-limited settings?
Innovation means little if patients cannot access its benefits.
Thank you to all the organisations and speakers who contributed to Day 1.
Different countries. Different challenges. But a shared responsibility to turn knowledge into action.
Final Registration Reminder!
Today, 3 November, is the last day to register for our flagship in-person event on Friday 6 November at King’s College London.
We are bringing together clinicians, researchers, policymakers, advocates and community leaders to move from conversations to practical solutions.
If you want to be part of the conversation and, more importantly, part of the solutions, join us!”
