Olivia Benny, Honorary Researcher at University of Oxford, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What a proud moment! Excited to share that my research was presented at the ESMO Breast 2026 last week
Although I did not attend in person, I was incredibly grateful to still contribute through an ePoster presentation as first author and collaborator on the projects.
Our research explored ethnic disparities in outcomes and haematological toxicities among metastatic breast cancer patients treated with CDK4/6 inhibitors using large-scale real-world data. Our work also focused on the use of AI within the space of Oncology.
Some key findings included:
- Black patients consistently experienced poorer survival outcomes across several analyses
- Asian patients had higher rates of neutropenia, particularly grade 3 neutropenia
- Black patients showed higher rates of anaemia
- The findings highlighted the ongoing lack of ethnic diversity and representation within oncology research and clinical trials
What makes this even more exciting is that this work has contributed to the beginning of a new Virtual Cancer Inequalities Lab, which I’m incredibly proud to be a co-founder of alongside Disha Khanna and Joecelyn Kirani T.
As a medical student, having my work presented at my first international oncology conference is something I’m hugely proud of, and I’m excited for what’s to come next.
A huge thank you to my supervisors Aruni Ghose Dr Olubukola Ayodele, collaborators, and the presenting authors for all their support and hard work throughout these projects. Congratulations as well to everyone involved in the 6 ePosters and poster presentations presented at the conference
This is only the started of the Virtual Cancer Inequalities Lab, watch this space for even greater things to come.”
