Nirmala Bhoo Pathy: The Role of Biology and Biography in Precision Oncology at OGSM 2026

Nirmala Bhoo Pathy, Professor at the University of Malaya and Adjunct Professor at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, shared on LinkedIn:

OGSM 2026 | Symposium 5 – Precision Oncology in Women’s Health

A full house today and more importantly an Obstetrical and Gynaecological community willing to ask whether precision oncology has become too narrowly defined.

My central argument was simple: precision oncology should not stop at looking into cells. It should dive into both biology and biography.

Biology helps us understand the tumour. Biography tells us about the person…. their circumstances, priorities, resources, relationships, work, and the realities that ultimately determine whether the best treatment on paper becomes the best treatment in practice.

If we only personalise treatment to the tumour, we’ve only done half the job. Truly precise care is about matching the right treatment to the right person, not just the right cancer.

Thank you to everyone who joined the discussion. The thoughtful questions made it clear that this conversation is only just beginning.”
