Nils Nicolay, Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Leipzig Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In our healthcare system, an ‘all inclusive‘ mentality seems widespread among patients, and fundraising or donating remains highly unusual.
Nevertheless, once in a while, a patient donates some money to our department, sometimes a few Euros and sometimes also a slightly larger sum.
We have been saving up in order to provide a little more comfort for our future patients and have now put some of that money to good use (following long-standing patients’ suggestions). The donations will improve the stay and wellbeing of our inpatients: A large delivery of reading lights, portable radios and fragrance lamps was just received and will be distributed by our head nurse, Jessica Friedrich, on our two wards.
