Nicole Stout: How Important is Caregiving in Cancer Care?

Nicole Stout, Senior Director of Survivorship and Wellness at American Cancer Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“How important is caregiving in cancer care? 10/10 important!

And in complex cancer care, caregivers are literally a lifeline!

Yes, having supportive caregivers improves patient quality of life,
BUT there is more…
In complex cancer treatments that require cellular therapies, transplant, home infusion etc, caregivers are a necessity.

Continuous monitoring by a caregiver is a requirement in order for patients to receive potentially lifesaving treatments, like CAR T-cell therapy.

BUT caregiving is arduous, time consuming, expensive, and emotionally draining. And when there is no caregiver…

Our healthcare systems lack the infrastructure and resources to support cancer caregivers.
And that must change!

That is why, at the American Cancer Society we have kicked off a new partnership with Kite Pharma to develop innovative solutions in the cancer caregiving space, starting with the most difficult; caregiving in CAR T-cell therapy.

We are working towards a future where our healthcare systems have the infrastructure and resources they need to support patients and caregivers, where caregivers receive the resources and support THEY need.

Together we will succeed in solving the caregiver crisis for everyone touched by cancer.”
