“The National Cancer Registry’s (NCR) 40th anniversary celebrations concluded with a special recognition ceremony honouring those who have contributed to the NCR’s legacy over the past four decades. Leadership Awards formally recognised former NCR leaders and foundational contributors, while Recognition and Appreciation Awards celebrated long – serving NCR staff and stakeholders whose dedication has helped shape the Registry.
Cancer remains an important public health challenge, and reliable data is essential to understanding who is affected, which cancers are most common, where the burden is greatest, and how trends change over time. For 40 years, the NCR has strengthened South Africa’s cancer evidence base by tracking cancer incidence, collecting, analysing and reporting cancer statistics, supporting cancer prevention, control and care initiatives, and informing cancer policy and guidelines.
As we mark this milestone, we celebrate the people, partnerships, and commitment that have shaped the NCR over four decades and look towards the continued strengthening of cancer surveillance in South Africa.”
