“How do we create even greater impact across Huntsman Cancer Institute? By bringing our strengths together.
We recently brought together HCI’s Disease Center Leaders, Research Program Leaders, and Senior Directors for a retreat focused on how we can create deeper integration and collaboration across HCI.
It was a terrific opportunity to step outside of our usual structures and think together about where we are succeeding, where barriers remain, and how we can strengthen the connections across our disease-focused, scientific, clinical, and community efforts.
A particularly important part of that is translation across the full continuum – from bench to bedside to population, and back again.
- How can discoveries in the laboratory more rapidly benefit our patients?
- How can questions arising from our patients and communities inform the science we pursue?
- And how can what we learn across populations lead us back to new biological insights, interventions, and better care?
The tremendous engagement was impressive. Not every group had time to get all the way to solutions, and that was not the goal. This was a first step in an ongoing dialogue about how we work even more closely together and accelerate our collective impact. I am grateful for the leadership, openness, and partnership across HCI.
