Neil Iyengar: Looking Forward to Discuss Obesity-Cancer Link at President’s Cancer Panel Meeting

Neil Iyengar, Section Chief of Breast Oncology and Director of Cancer Survivorship at the Emory University, shared on LinkedIn:

“I’m happy to share that the President’s Cancer Panel is meeting virtually on October 15 to discuss the link between obesity and cancer risk, and explore the possibility of harnessing GLP-1 medications for cancer prevention. My presentation will focus on mechanistic opportunities to disrupt the obesity-cancer link, and I look forward to contributing to the Panel’s discussion.

The Panel is a three-person federal advisory committee that delivers recommendations to the U.S. President on opportunities to reduce the national cancer burden.

About The President’s Cancer Panel

The President’s Cancer Panel will hold a virtual public meeting on October 15, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, to examine opportunities to reduce obesity-related cancer risk through GLP-1 medications. The meeting will bring together experts to discuss the biological mechanisms linking obesity to cancer, real-world evidence on GLP-1 receptor agonists and cancer outcomes, and the potential of GLP-1-based therapies for cancer prevention.

The agenda will also address policy and public health implications, including obesity care in primary care settings, medication access, affordability, insurance coverage, and the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Demonstration. The meeting aims to explore how emerging scientific advances could help address obesity-related cancer risk at the population level.
