“Could drugs developed for diabetes and obesity help slow cancer spread?
New research presented at ASCO 2026 suggests that GLP-1 receptor agonists may be associated with a lower risk of progression to metastatic disease in several cancers, including lung, breast, colorectal, and liver cancer.
While the findings are encouraging, experts stress that these are observational data, and randomized clinical trials will be needed to determine whether the drugs have a direct anticancer effect.
