National Cancer Institute (NCI) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Why do some cancers become resistant to treatment?
Researchers in our Center for Cancer Research have discovered a previously unknown molecular pathway that allows environmental stress to trigger heritable changes in gene activity – without altering the underlying DNA sequence.
This finding advances our understanding of epigenetics and may help explain how cancer cells adapt and survive under the pressure of treatment.
Understanding and overcoming treatment resistance is a major priority for NCI. Studies like this demonstrate the power of fundamental biology to uncover new opportunities for future cancer therapies and improve outcomes for patients.”
