Nathan Pennell: Closing the Gap Between What Science Can Do and What Actually Reaches a Patient

Nathan Pennell, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Medical Oncology at Bristol Myers Squibb, shared Bristol Myers Squibb’s post on LinkedIn, adding:

“There’s something about walking into McCormick Place for the ASCO annual meeting that never gets old. I’ve been coming to ASCO for more than 20 years—as a fellow, a clinician, a researcher and now as a medical affairs leader—and somehow the energy hits differently every time. This year feels particularly special, as it’s my first ASCO as part of the BMS team, and I’m seeing everything through a new lens.

ASCO President Eric Small‘s theme this year, ‘The Science and Practice of Translation: Improving Cancer Outcomes Worldwide,’ couldn’t resonate more with my new role, leading global medical oncology for BMS, because there is a gap between what science can do and what actually reaches a patient. Closing that gap is what drives me and my team, and right now, the science is giving us real reasons to believe we can.

My colleague Monica Shaw and I recently had an opportunity to talk about some of our reasons to believe—next-generation science with the potential to open new doors for more patients.”

Quoting Bristol Myers Squibb’s post:

“At the heart of our work is a promise to transform patients’ lives through science, and at ASCO26, we’re showcasing the latest breakthroughs in fulfilling that promise.

Explore the breadth of what we’ve been presenting.”
