“Heading to ASTRO 2026 with Ukraine in the heart.
This weekend, I’m heading to the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Annual Meeting to share our science, advocate for Ukraine, and highlight the resilience and progress of Ukrainian radiation oncology during the war.
I am deeply honored to receive the 2026 ARRO Global Health Faculty Award in Medical Physics for the work of Help Ukraine Group (HUG) in Ukraine. This recognition belongs to our entire HUG team, our Ukrainian colleagues, and our international partners.
Ukraine will also be represented through two posters:
Strengthening Radiation Oncology in Ukraine through Coordinated Education and Global Partnership – highlighting our large international collaborative effort to strengthen radiation oncology education and capacity in Ukraine.
Maintaining Radiotherapy Capacity During War: A Nation-Wide Study from Ukraine – presented on behalf of Zoia Shepil, MD, Vladyslav Buryk, and our collaborators.
I’ll also present two Stanford Radiation Oncology scientific posters on VMAT-TMLI and our first experience with upright proton therapy.
A special thank you to ASTRO for standing with Ukraine throughout the war – supporting Ukrainian radiation oncologists and medical physicists with Annual Meeting registrations, Ukraine-focused sessions, virtual education, and multiple courses developed with HUG, including Case Review with ASTRO Experts, SBRT/SRS, and Research Methodology.
