Myles Smith: Confirming the Continued Importance of Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Melanoma

Mr. Myles Smith has co-authored new research confirming the continued importance of sentinel lymph node biopsy in melanoma, published in the World Journal of Surgical Oncology.

The Royal Marsden study of 300 patients found that in those with high-risk tumours, nearly a third had occult nodal disease that would have gone undetected without the procedure.

As immunotherapy reshapes melanoma management, the study makes a timely case that omitting SLNB risks significant loss of prognostic information, particularly where it matters most.
