Mya Roberson, Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A few weeks ago, I shared a little bit about the difficult loss of my friend and colleague, Dr. Amy Beumer, and some of the things I had the good fortune to learn from her during the time we worked together. Another one of Amy’s amazing contributions to the world was the development of the Spinning Science Program. Spinning Science is a health literacy program run through the MBC-led organization Project Life for people with MBC and their loved ones, helping them understand the complexities of MBC treatment in a more approachable way.
After quite literally years of hard work and some rejections along the way, I am elated that we can continue to honor Amy’s memory and gifts through a publication documenting the first iterations of the Spinning Science Program that she championed:
Amy cared a lot about getting the remarkable work and impact of patient-led initiatives into peer-reviewed scientific literature. I believe that we in research have much to learn from patient-led approaches to tackling some of our biggest challenges. So proud of UNC Epi student Brianna Taffe, for seeing this work through knowing how much it meant to Amy.”
