“As we continue to progress in our project, Participatory Priority-Setting for National Childhood Cancer Control in Ethiopia Using C5 and NCCP Digest, we have now completed an in-depth review of c1 (National Context and Indicators).
A core group of participants, representing the Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia of Health, WHO Ethiopia, childhood cancer treatment centers, childhood cancer support organizations, public health experts, and professional societies, took part in a one-day workshop to review, discuss, and update national health-system data, cancer-specific indicators, and institution-based childhood cancer resources.
This initiative is the first of its kind to systematically compile and organize essential health‑system data and childhood cancer–specific indicators within both the broader national health context and the pediatric oncology landscape.
Over the past three weeks, the team has worked collaboratively in virtual sessions to explore datasets, exchange ideas, and prepare for the in-person discussions. On January 30, the participatory workshop was held in Addis Ababa to finalize c1.
As we move forward, we will regroup and begin work on c2, which will focus on identifying clinical organizations and national stakeholders across the health system and mapping their roles as they relate to childhood cancer care.
We are sincerely grateful to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia, Ethiopian Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, and Ethiopian Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology for their continuous support and collaboration.”
