“A New Era for Oncology: Reflections on Our Historic 6th AGM

Over the past two days at the Adwa Victory Memorial Memorial Museum, the Ethiopian Society of Hematology and Oncology-ESHO convened one of the most significant gatherings in its history under the theme:

‘From Diagnosis to Survivorship: Technological Pathways to Improved Cancer Prognosis.’

Highlights from Two Inspiring Days

  • Policy and Advocacy
We bridged the gap between clinical practice and national advocacy, bringing together policymakers, healthcare leaders, and oncology professionals to discuss pathways for sustainable improvements in cancer care.
  • Patient-Centered Survivorship
The voices and lived experiences of cancer survivors remained central to our discussions, reminding us that every advancement in oncology must ultimately improve the lives of patients and families.
  • Clinical Excellence and Innovation
Our scientific sessions explored key advances in leukemia, prostate cancer, immuno-oncology, and interventional oncology, while fostering important discussions on access, value, and implementation within our health systems.
  • Strengthening Oncology Collaboration
The meeting reinforced Ethiopian Society of Hematology and Oncology-ESHO’s commitment to advancing research, professional development, multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered cancer care across Ethiopia and the region.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our Double Diamond Sponsor Pfizer, our operational partner Manaaki Health Care, the dedicated EMSA volunteers, distinguished speakers, panelists, researchers, and all participants who contributed to the success of this remarkable meeting.

Together, we are shifting the narrative of cancer care from one of limitation to one of opportunity, innovation, and sustainable progress.”
