Mohamed Abazeed: Bringing Expertise in Small Cell Lung Cancer to Northwestern and Lurie Cancer Center

Mohamed Abazeed, Professor and Chair of Radiation Oncology at Northwestern Medicine, shared on LinkedIn:

“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Anish Thomas to Northwestern and the Lurie Cancer Center.

Anish is an internationally recognized physician-scientist with deep expertise in lung cancer, particularly small cell lung cancer, and translational oncology. His work has helped advance our understanding of the biology and therapeutic vulnerabilities of small cell lung cancer, with a consistent focus on translating discoveries in the laboratory into better treatments for patients.

I have had the privilege of knowing Anish and following his work for more than a decade, which makes it particularly meaningful to now welcome him to Northwestern. He is a tremendous addition to our Cancer Center and Lung Cancer Program, strengthening an already outstanding multidisciplinary community spanning clinical care, translational science, and discovery.

I am especially excited about the opportunities his arrival creates for new collaborations and for accelerating our efforts to develop more effective, biologically informed therapies for patients with lung cancer.

Welcome to Northwestern, Anish! We are incredibly fortunate to have you here.”

Anish Thomas, Roswell Park Professor of Hematology and Oncology at Northwestern University, shared a post by Mohamed Abazeed, adding:

“Excited to begin this new chapter at Northwestern and the Lurie Cancer Center.

Grateful to Mohamed Abazeed, Leonidas Platania’s, and the entire Lurie Cancer Center community for the incredibly warm welcome. I’m looking forward to working together to advance lung cancer research and care and to build new collaborations across Northwestern.

I’m also deeply grateful to my colleagues, mentors, trainees, and collaborators at the NCI Center for Cancer Research for an extraordinary 16 years that shaped me as a physician-scientist.

I look forward to continuing many of those collaborations in this next chapter Leonidas Platanias, Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, NCI Center for Cancer Research.”
