Moawia Mohammed Ali Elhassan, Associate Professor at University of Gezira, shared a post by Salma Alrawa on LinkedIn, adding:
“It’s truly humbling and inspiring to share this reflection from an exceptional young researcher I had the privilege to mentor. Her words beautifully capture the essence of thoughtful science and meaningful mentorship. I have no doubt she is on the path to a brilliant future in medicine and research.”
Quoting Salma Alrawa‘s post:
“As I advanced in my research journey, numbers began to allure me. I started chasing quantity over quality, something I now look back on with humility. In the pursuit of more, I had stopped truly advancing my skills.
Then I met Moawia Mohammed Ali Elhassan, the best supervisor I could have asked for. Together, we worked on ‘Delays in presentation, diagnosis, and treatment in Sudanese women with breast cancer: a cross-sectional study.’ From the proposal stage, he taught us to aim high and focus on quality from the start.
Later, when I became eager for quick publications, he noticed and gently reminded me:
‘We don’t publish for the sake of publication or to boost our CVs. We publish to call for action and drive change. And that takes time.’
That advice changed everything. There were no harsh words, only wisdom, patience, and care.
Before meeting him, I sometimes accepted easy explanations or repeated what others found. Afterward, I learned to slow down, think critically, and ensure every question, method, and interpretation truly mattered.
Prof. Moawia showed me that true mentorship is about awakening. It is guidance with empathy, purpose, and trust.”
