Miriam Mutebi: Women in Healthcare Coming Together to Strengthen Communities and Health Systems

Miriam Mutebi, Consultant Breast Surgical Oncologist, Immediate Past President of AORTIC- Africa, and UICC Board Member, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Last week, 20 copies of Stuff I’d Tell My Sister found new homes in under two hours.

But more meaningful than the books were the conversations sparked on breast cancer, survivorship, sisterhood, and the privilege of walking alongside patients through some of life’s most difficult moments.

The gathering brought together women from across Kenya’s healthcare ecosystem: medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, academia, industry, and healthcare leadership.

While our roles differ, our purpose is shared: improving the health and wellbeing of those we serve.

It was refreshing to pause, share a meal, exchange ideas, and celebrate one another’s work. A reminder that those who spend their lives caring for others must also make space to care for themselves.

My sincere thanks to Principal Secretary, Mary Muthoni, CBS, HSC., Dr. Jacqueline Kitulu, MBS, OGW, MD, MBA, FCMA, and the incredible organising team for creating such a thoughtful and inspiring gathering. One that gave women across Kenya’s healthcare ecosystem space to connect, reflect, and learn from one another.

When women in healthcare come together, we don’t just strengthen one another. We strengthen our institutions, our communities, and ultimately the health systems we serve.

Here’s to more evenings like this one.”
