Miriam Mutebi: Progress of the Global Breast Cancer Initiative and Launch of Its Second Phase

Miriam Mutebi, Breast Surgical Oncologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Aga Khan University Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

My second WHA side event this week was one I won’t forget quickly.

City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) hosted a gathering to mark the progress of the Global Breast Cancer Initiative and officially launch its second phase. The room brought together policymakers, partners, clinicians, and stakeholders, all with one shared goal: better care for patients.

Phase I was worth celebrating. Across four cities: Tbilisi, Kumasi, Cali, and Phnom Penh, the initiative reached over 80,000 women and trained more than 450 healthcare professionals.

And now Phase II begins.

I had the privilege of giving the closing remarks. My job was simple: bring the conversation back to ground. Because behind every framework, partnership, and launch, there is a woman navigating a system that wasn’t always built with her in mind. That reality doesn’t change when we leave the room. And it shouldn’t leave the room with us either.

A special word of thanks to City Cancer Challenge and to Isabel Mestres, CEO, whose generosity extended beyond the event itself. She even took a moment to mention StuffIdTellMySister to the room.

I had carried a small pile of copies to Geneva. Ten were gone in under twenty minutes.

I should have carried more.

Again, this is why this book exists, not for conference shelves, but for the hands of people doing this work every day and need the conversation to continue beyond the podium.

Grab your copy today. Link to order in comments.”
