Miriam Mutebi: The Future of Cervical Cancer Elimination Across the Commonwealth

Miriam Mutebi, Breast Surgical Oncologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Aga Khan University Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

I am in Geneva, at the World Health Organization headquarters.

Commonwealth health leaders are gathering for the inaugural Commonwealth Health Coordination Forum (CHC) ahead of the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA) next week.

The theme is fitting: Shaping the Future of Cancer Across the Commonwealth.

I have the privilege of co-chairing the session on cervical cancer elimination; a disease we know how to prevent, detect, and treat, yet one that continues to claim the lives of far too many women across Commonwealth countries.

That gap between what is possible and what is happening is a leadership and systems failure. And closing it is exactly why conversations like the ones we just had matter.

I look forward to the discussions ahead… on financing, implementation, political will, and the practical tools that can move us from commitment to action.

Because a future where no woman dies from cervical cancer is not beyond reach. It is within our grasp.”
