Miriam Mutebi: Karnak Is a Reminder That Strong Systems Are Rarely Spectacular

Miriam Mutebi, Breast Surgical Oncologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Aga Khan University Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“One more from Cairo Chronicles (Karnak).

Some places don’t ask to be explained.

Standing at Karnak, you feel the weight of work built slowly, by many hands, across generations, centuries and rulers, without certainty of who would benefit, or even remember the builders.

What stands after millennia is not a single vision, but a system: repetition, shared standards, patience, and continuity over time.

Karnak is a reminder that strong systems are rarely spectacular.

They are designed to outlast individuals. Maintained quietly. Strengthened incrementally. And carried forward long after their originators have stepped away.

Worth remembering, as we think about what we build, and perhaps more importantly, what we leave behind.”
