Miet Vandemaele: Successfully Defended My PhD on Value-Based Radiation Oncology

Miet Vandemaele, Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Human Structure and Repair at UGhent, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This week, I successfully defended my PhD thesis ‘Towards value-based radiation oncology’.

After four years of research, I’m so happy and proud to have presented my work, contributing to the VBRO project which aims to identify high-value radiotherapy and improve patient access through promoting implementation and reimbursement.

I am deeply grateful to both my promotors Yolande Lievens and Ajay Aggarwal for their guidance and support, and to Michelle Leech, Pierre Blanchard, Marianne Aznar and josep m Borras for being the VBRO ‘core group’ these past years.

My sincere thanks also to my PhD examination committee, Anna Kirby, Sylvie Rottey, Richard Sullivan, Wim Ceelen, chris monten, Wouter van Elmpt and Jolanda van Hengel for their thoughtful comments and for the great discussions during my internal and public defence.

Completing this PhD feels like turning a page, but only of a first chapter. Looking forward to continuing the work in the VBRO project and to new projects ahead!”
